A call to all spiritual people:

It is time to start living your divinity

July 2008

Painting: Thomas Cole, Voyage of Life - Youth

You, the richest person on Earth,
who have been going around begging for a living,
stop being the destitute child.
Come back and claim your heritage.
We should enjoy our happiness
and offer it to everyone.
Cherish this very moment.
Let go of the stream of distress
and embrace life fully in your arms.

~ from the poem "Our True Heritage" by Thich Nhat Hanh

1. Remote Heaven, suffering Earth

I am 12 891 days old. 1

The first 6000 days I spent learning about life and gathering experiences. The conclusions I made during that period were obviously not too encouraging, so I decided to close myself in and reject life. And so the next 4500 days I spent separating myself from my True Self and ruining my life through an eating disorder. Then about 1800 days ago I realized that I cannot go on like that any more and that unless I change something, I will be no more.

So I sought help, and found it. I stepped on the path of self- development, learned how to accept myself, love myself, have more fulfilling relationships and lead a more satisfying life. Many of my wounds were healed. But something was still missing. I was here on Earth, and the Paradise was up there in Heaven. Remote. Why can't I have Paradise here on Earth? What is stopping me? Why can't I let go of the darkness in me? Why can't we as a human race let go of our collective darkness? What is stopping us? Why is this world so different from what it could be in theory? Peace, abundance, freedom for all… Why is it so hard to achieve?

I started searching for answers… and about 1000 days ago I found it. I found the truth which empowered me to set myself free. Whenever I am ready for it. I realized there is more to life than I thought, or what others told me. There is a real possibility to have Heaven on Earth. If we choose so. We are more than who we think we are. We are spiritual beings on a sojourn in matter. We are divine. OK, I already knew that. But what to do with that divinity? Does it mean to have better lives, have spiritual and material abundance, care about the environment, love all people? Yes, but that's just part of the picture. We are not isolated from others, we are not isolated from the world. We may have our personal lives all set up and running smoothly, but outside of our bubble there's a world in need. And what do we do about that?

2. What does it mean to be divine?

That ties in to our divinity. Think for a second - what does it really mean to be divine? Would a divine being allow pain and suffering, wars and killing, famine and environmental destruction, to continue for another moment, if it had the power to change it? Would a divine being tolerate the greed of the minority to control the lives of the majority? Would a divine being not feel a burning desire within, a fire in the heart, and say: "Wait a minute! This is not right! This cannot continue! We demand the higher principles of God - that we all know in our hearts - to be established on this planet.

We don’t allow wars, killings, pain and suffering of our fellow men to continue. THOSE ARE NOT OUR WAYS. We care for life. We respect people's free will. We want people to live in peace and harmony. We want peace on Earth. We demand peace on Earth. Because we have the right to live in peace. It is our God-given right, and no authority on Earth can take it away from us.

Many things are wrong on this planet. Deep within we know it, but somehow we came to believe that this is how life is, this is how Earth should probably be. There is a perfect life in Heaven, and that's where we, as a spiritual person, will go. After we leave this earthly body. After we leave the Earth.

3. What counts is Earth

God created us as a divine spark and we are here to grow in divine qualities until we reach full Christhood. This is what Being More of God means - developing more of divine qualities, becoming more God-like, i.e. Christ like. The matter plane (our Mother Earth) is the place where this growth and learning happens, and where we build our identity in God. It happens gradually, often involving mistakes and errors. And multiple embodiments, because we can't develop mastery in just one lifetime, and also because sometimes we stray away and get stuck in certain patterns and experiences that don't take us higher. So we need to repeat those parts and choose and choose better.

So the material realm is not unreal, it's not something to escape or see as inferior to spirit, but is the place to be more of God. It is here on Earth that we gather our treasures, which, if our hearts and minds are pure, get stored in our heavenly "bank account", in our causal body.

This means that the majority of our spiritual growth happens while we are in embodiment, not while we are in between incarnations. True, our soul learns in between embodiments too, in the sense that it sees the mistakes it had made in the previous incarnation, and the areas it still needs to work on. And it makes a plan - with the help of its spiritual guides - of how to best learn the lessons it needs to learn in the next incarnation. But the execution of our life plan takes place in embodiment.

4. Remembering our identity as sons and daughters of God

Our goal is to remember our divine identity - our Christ identity - and live from that place. It means realizing that we are a son or daughter of God, that God is our Father who loves us and wants the best for us. This realization, and the subsequent surrender in the heart, changes our lives in most profound ways, because suddenly we are not alone any more, we walk with God who gives us strength, courage and protection. We feel loved and don't need to manipulate other people to receive love. Our heart opens for love and forgiveness, we develop compassion, and we can serve selflessly without wanting anything in return. These are the fruits of being reborn into our true identity in Christ.

Many of us are babes in Christ, growing into the full stature. Many Christians recognize themselves as children of God but they don't quite see that they can become the fullness of Christ, like Jesus did. That's most unfortunate when they don't see their own divinity, but recognize only that of Jesus. But luckily, many acknowledge that they can follow in his footsteps, and that's equivalent to accepting their own divinity.

If you see yourself as a divine being, but you don't relate your divinity to that of Christ, which means you don't see God as Father, but rather as energy or consciousness, you might find yourself drifting away from your true purpose. Because the Father-Son relationship is what locks you into your true divine identity, the kind of relationship Jesus had with the Father. Jesus had total trust in God and unconditionally accepted his Will, even if it led to crucifixion.

5. God's Will is the highest will of our soul

God sees more, he knows the totality of our soul, he knows what is our divine mission and what we vowed to accomplish in this life. Our perspective is limited and that's why we need guidance, we need to listen to the inner promptings, to the still small voice of the Christ who speaks in our heart. Or it can be an outer Guru, whom we trust and who exhibits a great measure of Christhood. Ideally, it should be both the inner and the outer Guru.

We are God's hands and feet and often times he needs us to be somewhere and do something for him. Jesus said to apostle Paul:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, When you were young, you dressed yourself, and walked where you would: but when you shall be old, you shall stretch forth your hands, and another shall dress you, and carry you where you would not. (John 21:18)

And this is what happens when we get spiritually more mature, i.e. have become more of the Christ. We love God's Will so much that we let God lead us, so we can be his hands and feet. Sometimes it is not pleasant where we need to go and what we need to do, but it is for the best, for the highest good and it is also what our soul wants the most.

Even if it is unpleasant to the outer self - like crucifixion was an agony that Jesus wanted to avoid if possible (Luke 22:42) - still it had a greater purpose, and by going through it, he won not just the victory for himself, but for all children of God. God's Will is greater than us, and being an instrument of that Will is the greatest satisfaction a soul can have. That's why Saint Francis wrote:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
when there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying [to ourselves] that we are born to eternal life.

These verses describe the path of love, compassion and selfless services that we are all call to. It is on that path that we grow into More of God, more of our true self, and weave our wedding garment for the total union with Christ, which is our ascension and eternal life.

If you walk this path, you are being real, you are reaching your highest potential. Being the Christ is our highest potential. And it is the need of the hour. The only thing that can bring an age of peace and prosperity is that enough people embrace their divine individuality, their personal Christhood. The time is now.
